EUI ready to observe the Sun, despite COVID-19!

May 12 is the day of the truth: the first image of the Sun taken by EUI onboard Solar Orbiter will come down. Will it be OK or not? The operations are led by the EUI team working from home. (NL/FR/EN)

The EUI Telescope is Waking up

The telescope Extreme Ultraviolet Imager (EUI), onboard of the Solar Orbiter spacecraft got a wake up call sent from ESOC, Darmstadt on February 25. At this stage, we can happily report that EUI is awake!

Launch of Solar Orbiter - Feb 10, 05:03 CET

NASA will launch the Solar Orbiter spacecraft from Cape Canaveral, with 10 scientific instruments on board, including the space telescope Extreme Ultraviolet Imager (EUI). Solar Orbiter will study the Sun from close up. The Royal Observatory of Belgium will manage the observations and coordinate the analysis of its unique solar images.

Happy birthday PROBA2!

On November 2, the ESA satellite PROBA2 will be celebrating its 10th anniversary. Not bad for this small Belgian spacecraft that was initially intended for a two-year mission!

We need YOU to help us

Val-u-Sun citizen science project needs YOU to be part of scientific research. You can help us by counting sunspots on the original drawings from our archive.

EUI and Solar Orbiter ready for launch!

Brussels, 18 October 2019 – Ever closer to the Sun! The instrument EUI (Extreme Ultraviolet Imager) is integrated into the Solar Orbiter satellite to be launched towards the Sun in February 2020. Fourteenth European Space Weather Week

The European Space Weather Week (ESWW) is one of the main international conferences when it comes to space weather. Already for the 12th time, its organisation is in the hands of the STCE.

Recurrent Coronal Hole

Earth is currently (28 September) under the influence of a high speed stream from a coronal hole. A strong geomagnetic storm is in progress. Polar lights will not be visible from Belgium.

Eclipse fever

The Monday August 21 eclipse will transit the whole of North America. If you can't make it to there, no problem. We have a reporter, live from space: our satellite PROBA2.

Extreme Ultraviolet Imager (EUI) ready for launch!

This is it: the solar telescope EUI is ready to be mounted on the Solar Orbiter satellite. Solar Orbiter will be launched in 2019 and will approach the Sun closer than any other satellite ever. (NL-FR-EN)
