Title: Identification, Tracking and Analysis of Early-Stage CME Flux Ropes from Simulation Data

Abstract:

Studying the early evolution of CME flux ropes as they lift-off of the solar surface is crucial to understand their space weather impacts. Data-driven simulations provide a feasible tool to study this early phase. It is, however, not always a trivial task to extract the actual flux rope from the resulting data. Thus, an extraction scheme was developed, that enables us to not only detect flux ropes from our simulations but also track their evolution. We applied this scheme to time-dependent, data-driven magnetofrictional model (TMFM) simulations and investigate the footpoint movement and toroidal flux evolution of the resulting flux rope. These results were also compared to the results from both coronal EUV dimmings and brightenings in UV. As an outlook, I will also present current developments in improving this extraction scheme, utilizing mathematical morphology algorithms and the investigation of the effect of data-driving on the resulting flux ropes.
