Title: Accelerated Solar Tomography: Balancing Accuracy and Observation Cadence
By Mark Butala, from U. Edinburgh
Abstract: Accurate reconstructions of the solar corona are essential for space weather modeling, yet current solar tomography methods are limited by sparse observations. We present a GPU-accelerated framework that enables fast reconstruction. By systematically varying the number and spacing of virtual coronagraph viewpoints, we quantify how observational geometry impacts reconstruction accuracy. Our results show diminishing returns beyond a certain number of viewpoints and identify efficient sampling intervals that preserve accuracy while reducing runtime. These findings can inform future mission designs to improve space weather monitoring with fewer resources.
